Merkmale
Körperlänge: Weibchen erreichen 7,5–11 mm, Männchen 7,5–10,5 mm. (Martens 1978)
Hell bis dunkel rötlichbraun marmorierte große Weberknechte. Prosoma und Opisthosoma weisen immer einen schmalen, weißen, medianen Längsstreifen auf (vgl. Bild). Die bräunlichen Pedipalpen sind robust (vgl. Bild) und fein behaart. Die massigen Chelizeren des Männchens sind variabel, glatt bis stachelig. Insbesondere kann das zweite Chelizerenglied auffällig aufgebläht sein. Die Chelizeren des Weibchens sind glatt und schlank. Laufbeine: Femur des Bein Ⅰ keulig verdickt und beborstet, Bein Ⅱ bis Bein Ⅳ, schlanker, rundlich bis kantig im Querschnitt. Bein Ⅳ kantig bedornt (siehe Bild). Augenhügel klein, hell und mit 5–6 deutlich sichtbaren Tuberkeln in einer Reihe. (Martens 1978)
Reifezeit
Frühjahr und Sommer, vor der mediterranen Trockenperiode.
Lebensraum
Die thermophile Art bewohnt unterschiedliche mediterran geprägte Habitate wie z. B. Laubwälder, Buschbestände bis hin zu offenen Steppen. Die Art meidet jedoch intensiv genutzte Ackerbauflächen. (Martens 1978)
Verbreitung
Süd- (Italien, Griechenland) und Osteuropa, nach Osten bis Kaukasien verbreitet. (Martens 1978) (Snegovaya 1999)
