Systematik

Die Familie gehört zu der Unterordnung Oribatida, Superkohort Desmonomatides, Kohort Astigmatina, Überfamilie Hemisarcoptoidea. (Krantz & Walter 2009)

Zwei Unterfamilien sind beschreiben, Algophaginae und Hericiinae. Die europäische Gattungen sind:

• Hericiinae
  • Hericia
  • Prohericia

Beschreibung

Algophagidae ist eine Familie vor allem in Wasser oder in flüssigen Substanzen lebenden Milben. (Krantz & Walter 2009)

Gattungen und Verbreitung

Die Familie ist weltweit verbreitet. Wegen Mangel an Forschungen und Literatur ist das Verbreitung der zwei europäischer Gattungen wenig bekannt. (Stoch 2003) (Fashing N. J. 2008)
