Die Familie gehört zu der Unterordnung Oribatida, Superkohort Desmonomatides, Kohort Astigmatina, Überfamilie Acaroidea. (Krantz & Walter 2009)

80 Gattungen und 500 Arten sind weltweit beschreiben (Stand 2009). (Krantz & Walter 2009)

Biologie

Die Lebensräume der Vertreter der Familie sind sehr unterschiedlich: Nester von Insekten oder Wirbeltieren, in Streu, auf Pflanzen, Phytotelmata, Gebäuden oder Pilzen. Einige tropische Gattungen leben auf den Kiemen terrestrischen Einsiedlerkrebsen. (Krantz & Walter 2009)
