Systematik

Die Familie gehört zu der Unterordnung Prostigmata, Infraordnung Anystina, Hypordnung Parasitengona, Überfamilie Trombidoidea und hat drei Unterfamilien, 126 Gattungen und 437 Arten weltweit (Stand 2011) (Zhang 2011) (Krantz & Walter 2009).

Beschreibung

Adulte Tiere: mittelgroße Milben, ähnlich Trombidiidae. Prodorsale Platte trägt meist mehr als 2 anteriore Setae. Augen sind deutlich sichtbar. Idiosomale Setae oft modifiziert. Larven: Setae 1b, 2b, und 3b auf den coxalen Platten setiform (einfach), nicht breit. Famulus auf Tarsus I ist proximal oder distal zu ω-Solenidien. (Krantz & Walter 2009).

Biologie

Die Larven leben parasitisch auf Zweiflüglern, selten auf Käfern. (Krantz & Walter 2009)

Lebensraum

Diese Milben sind weit im Streu, Moos und im Erdboden verbreitet. (Krantz & Walter 2009)
