Merkmale
Körperlänge 5 bis 7 mm (Weibchen) bzw. 4 bis 6 mm (Männchen). (Bellmann 2001)
Merkmale
Große, robuste und langbeinige Weberknechte. Kräftiger brauner Sattel, auffallend kalkweiße Unterseite. Genital-Operkulum vorne rundlich, keulenförmig. Chelizerengrundglied (m) dorsal extrem hornartig verlängert, ohne einen ventralen Dorn. Spezifisch für die Gattung/Art sind die beiden hellen "Zähnchen" auf den Suprachelizeral-Lamellen (Foto unten) (Martens 1978)
Reifezeit
Adulte Tiere findet man von Mitte Mai bis Anfang Dezember, mit der Hauptzeit von August bis Oktober. Während der ganzen Aktivitätsperiode sind auch juvenile und subadulte Tiere zu beobachten, so daß davon ausgegangen werden kann, daß es sich teilweise um Exemplare einer zweiten Generation handelt. Lebensraum
Phalangium opilio gehört zu den wenigen europäischen Weberknechten, die offensichtlich offene und lichtexponierte Biotope bevorzugen und sich während der Tagaktivität regelmäßig intensiver Sonnenbestrahlung aussetzen. (Martens 1978)
Meist an Extremstandorten, wo geschlossener Waldwuchs nicht möglich ist. Heute auch auf allen Typen von Kulturlandschaft: Gärten, Felder, Wiesen, Wegränder, Kahlschläge, aufgelockerte Siedlungen. Beschattete, lichtarme Biotope werden gemieden, vor allem geschlossene Wälder. Selbst in lichten Gehölzen kommt er nur ausnahmsweise vor, wohl aber in Randgesellschaften und auf Lichtungen. Verbreitung
Paläarktisch verbeitet; durch Verschleppung zusätzlich nearktisch und neuseeländisch. In Mitteleuropa weit verbreitet. (Martens 1978)
