Systematik
Die Familie Sironidae ist die einzige Vertreterin der Unterordnung Cyphophthalmi der Weberknechte in Europa. (Szalay 1968)
Beschreibung
Kleine bis sehr kleine, primitive, oft blinde Vertreter der Opiliones, Subordnung Cyphophthalmi. Die Beine sind kurz, Körper kompakt.
Anatomie
Die Genitalöffnung ist offen. Diese Weberknechte haben keinen Genitaldeckel, was sie von allen anderen europäischen Weberknechten unterscheidet. Das Carapax und die vorderen 8 Tergiten formen einen zusammengewachsenen Schild. Tergit 9. ist frei. Bei Sterniten ist das siebte frei, das zweite bis sechste und achte und neunte sind zusammengewachsen.
Die Stinkdrüsen der Sironidae öffnen sich auf 1-1 kleinen Hügeln an den Seiten des Prosomas. Die ersten und zweiten Coxae sind beweglich. (Szalay 1968)
Lebensraum
Bei den europäischen Sironidae handelt es sich um troglophile Weberknechte, was bedeutet, dass sie nur in Höhlen vorkommen. (Szalay 1968)
