Systematik
Die Familie gehört zu der Unterordnung Prostigmata, Infraordnung Anystina, Hypordnung Parasitengonina, Überfamilie Calyptostomatoidea und hat nur eine bekannte Gattung mit 6 Arten weltweit (Stand 2011) (Zhang 2011) (Krantz & Walter 2009).
Beschreibung
Adulte Tiere: große, ovale Milben. Prodorsaler Bereich hat 1 Paar bothridiale Organe und zwei kleine aber deutliche Augengruben. Gnathosoma kann ganz ins Idiosoma zurückgezogen werden. Kutikula mit sternähnlich retikulärem Muster und mit zahlreichen, kurzen, einfachen Haaren. Genitalfeld mit 2 Paaren Papillen, pregentiale Knolle nicht vorhanden. Larven: prodorsale Platte nicht vorhanden. Coxale Platten tragen je 15 oder mehrere Setae. Palpusgenu hat 2-4 Setae. (Krantz & Walter 2009)
Biologie
Adulte ernähren sich vor allem von Diptera-Larven. Die Larven leben parasitisch auf Schnaken (Tipulidae und Limoniidae) (Krantz & Walter 2009).
Lebensraum
Diese Milben leben in Wassernähe, in nassen Habitaten, in Streu und in Moos (Krantz & Walter 2009).
Verbreitung
Europa, Japan, Australien, Afrika, Nordamerika (Krantz & Walter 2009).
